On April 16, 2014, South Korea witnessed one of the most heartbreaking tragedies in its modern history: the sinking of the MV Sewol, a passenger ferry carrying 476 people, many of whom were high school students on a class trip. Due to government negligence, poor safety protocols, and delayed rescue efforts, over 304 people lost their lives—a trauma that continues to impact Korean society and its global diaspora.

The Sewol disaster became a national symbol of grief, injustice, and collective heartbreak. Families and communities have long demanded truth, accountability, and change. Each year, April becomes a season of remembrance, not only for mourning the loss but also for inspiring transformation toward a more just and safe society.

This 11th Anniversary Memorial Service creates sacred space for: Mourning the lives lost in the tragedy, standing in solidarity with the bereaved families, lamenting injustice and remembering the call for safety and truth, and recommitting ourselves to love, justice, and peace

Through hymns, scripture, prayer, and communion, we remember the voices of the young who never came home, and we move toward healing and hope.
