On Sunday evening, members of First United Church had the joy and privilege of participating in an Interfaith Iftar Dinner hosted by our friends at the Islamic Centre of Waterloo. As part of our Lenten journey and our growing commitment to interfaith and intercultural relationships, this special gathering allowed us to experience the sacred season of Ramadan alongside our Muslim neighbors.

Over 40 participants from First United and beyond came together to break the fast, share delicious food, and engage in meaningful conversation. We learned about the spiritual significance of Ramadan, the practice of fasting and prayer, and the deep values of hospitality and generosity at the heart of Islam. The room was filled with warmth, laughter, and the beautiful sight of diverse people coming together in friendship and mutual respect.

From the welcoming smiles at the door, to the abundance of food generously served, to the conversations shared while sitting side-by-side on the carpeted floor, this evening was truly a taste of God's transforming love. It reminded us that God’s table is wide and that we are called to build bridges across differences, celebrating the divine image in every person we meet.

A heartfelt thank you to all the participants and a big kudos to our intercultural coordinator, Venus, who not only suggested this interfaith initiative but also worked tirelessly to make it happen. Her passion for building relationships across cultures and faiths continues to bless and inspire our community.

As we continue walking this path of discipleship, we give thanks for opportunities like this — where strangers become friends, and where faith becomes action. May we keep tasting this joy in all that we do.
