First United Church will be receiving $4,000 from the Western Ontario Waterways Regional Council(WOWRC) KW Post-Secondary Ministry Fund, to help further the ministry objectives laid out in our “Flourishing Connections” program.
First United Church will also be receiving $8,000 from the WOWRC Ministry with Children, Youth, and Young Adults Fund, to support “Generation Now”!
The vision of “Generation Now” aims to revitalize the ministry with the current generation of young people by recognizing the importance of children, youth and young adults in the present moment. It seeks to build a vibrant community reflecting diverse neighbourhoods in the K-W area. (Programs such as "Youth Connect," "Joint Youth Group," "Building Brilliance,"(with the Black Parent Council), "Free Intercultural Lunch," and "(Joint) Messy Church.")
Through “Flourishing Connections,” First United Church aspires to serve young adults in this area, creating a safe space for gathering where they can learn, worship and share a meal. Particularly, there is a growing number of international students in Kitchener-Waterloo.
We seek to offer them a range of programs and opportunities to introduce the values of the United which strives to be more inclusive, affirming, anti-racist and intercultural and build a community for “deep spirituality, bold discipleship and daring justice.” (Programs such as "Flourishing Connections: monthly worship gathering," "K-W at First: tour for new students," and "Spirit Connected: online ministry for young adults.")
