JUNE IS NATIONAL INDIGENOUS HISTORY MONTH

June is National Indigenous History Month, and June 21st  is Indigenous Peoples Day. We are all aware of the difficult journey we are on with the legacies and current realities of settler/Indigenous relations.

The University of Waterloo/Indigenous history month will lead you to the events planned there.

Waterloo Public Library has Indigenous History Month reading suggestions and an interactive information site.

FAITH CLIMATE JUSTICE

The Region of Waterloo is working on its Regional Official Plan (ROP) which is planning for the next 30 years. It is important that concerned residents speak out before it is too late. So 50x30 WR, FCJ and other groups concerned about the climate and justice are working together to send delegations to the Regional Council meeting on June 22. There has been very little notice about this, and the Provincial Government has set a deadline of July 1st. There are many facets to the ROP –land use planning, housing, transportation, infrastructure-- and it is important that justice issues are addressed.

To be informed, go to the Region of Waterloo Official Plan, and there is a place for community involvement.

JUNE IS ALSO PRIDE MONTH

June is also Pride Month. It is a time when we celebrate the diversity of 2SLGBTQ+ communities, while acknowledging their history, the hardships they have endured and the progress that has been made.

CBC has gathered resources and information.
