State of the City

Waterloo Mayor Dorothy McCabe will present her thoughts about Waterloo's challenges, opportunities and ambitions on Thursday, May 2 from 7am - 9 am at an event at Lazaridis Hall at Wilfrid Laurier University.  This is a fundraiser by Rotary Waterloo with proceeds going to SHOW, Supportive Housing of Waterloo.  Besides wanting to support raising funds for SHOW, you may want to attend in support of one of our members at First who we know is very involved with SHOW and will be honoured at the event.  Tickets can be purchased at rotarywaterloo.ca


oneROOF Youth Service

oneROOF Youth Services is once again hosting our annual National Youth week event and we need your help spreading the word!

Youth Week is a collection of events in support of oneROOF Youth Services, spanning the first week of May each year. Throughout the week, the young people who access oneROOF Youth Services have the opportunity to participate in a variety of unique programming, from special meal days to friendly games and sports tournaments. Each year, we close out Youth Week with a grand fundraising event, open to the public. You are welcome to attend our FREE Night Market & Concert, happening Friday, May 10th, 2024 6:00pm - 10:00pm. This fundraising event offers us the opportunity to connect with and support local businesses and artists while raising funds and awareness for oneROOF Youth Services.

Rescue Junction is an award-winning Canadian bluegrass band based in Ontario that has been travelling and singing together since 2009. Originally comprised of brother and sister, Kyle & Kaitlyn Gerber on mandolin and guitar respectively, the band has grown to include Roger Martin on banjo, Dallas Roth on upright bass and Nick Huber on dobro. Rescue Junction combines a plethora of musical tastes with their passion for bluegrass resulting in a unique, refreshing style. This April, long-time friends of the choir - mezzo-soprano Jennifer Enns Modolo and pianist Catherine Robertson - will join us for our season-ending concert.

The concert explores many types of "dualities" - birth/death, spring/fall, love/hate, childhood/old age. The program also contains a mix of old and new repertoire - including 5 selections that are brand new for the choir.

The Annual Spirituality and Aging Seminar will take place on Friday, June 21st in-person and virtually at Conrad Grebel University College. Rev. Dr. Mark Roberts presents "From Problems to Possibilities: Faith Communities enabling those in the third third of life to flourish." This seminar challenges the narratives about elders in communities, churches, and society at large; exploring the role churches can play in empowering older adults.
